[Garden of Wisdom Academy · Class of 2026]
My name is Katelynn Santana, and I am 18 years old. I am the second oldest of five children in a proud American Hispanic family, and I will be one of the first in my family to attend college. Growing up Christian has shaped my values, given me a clear sense of purpose, and inspired a lifelong commitment to serving others. Those beliefs guided me when I pre-registered to vote as a Republican at sixteen and when I participated in my first general election this year.
Service is woven into every part of my life. I am a Cadet Senior Airman in Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, a docent at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, where I share history with visitors and a volunteer in my church nursery, caring for infants. Through these roles I have learned leadership, responsibility, and compassion at an early age.
Healthcare has been a passion for as long as I can remember. As a child I read Gifted Hands by Dr. Ben Carson, and his story opened my eyes to the world of medicine. My interest deepened when I was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of thirteen. Each seizure, recovery, and uncertain moment taught me resilience and strengthened my desire to pursue a career in medicine.
Academically, I challenged myself by taking dual-enrollment courses beginning in my junior year of high school. I plan to get my associates in Microbiology at Pierce College. Afterwards, I aim to go to my dream school of UCLA to continue my education.
Outside of school and volunteering, I value quiet moments that help me recharge—reading, painting with watercolors, petting my cat, or watching movies with my family.
These experiences and interests have shaped who I am, a young woman grounded in faith, driven by service, and ready to contribute to and succeed in college. Thank you for your consideration.
Every contribution opens a door to opportunity for a deserving young leader. Join us in investing in the next generation.
